Preparing the sacred.

There is beauty in preparing the elements that will be used in a Eucharistic service. We slow down, mindful that we are preparing the table of our Lord.

As part of my Altar Guild ministry, I often wash and iron the sacred linens. This is a blessed calling. It allows me to spend quiet time with my faith, as I gently rinse each piece of cloth, roll it up in a towel to dry, and then iron it just so. For this task, I bought a special iron —no holes in the sole (soul) plate—to minimize the chance of scorching these precious linens. I am so grateful that St. Paul’s offers us these opportunities to serve in ways that nourish our souls.
