This upcoming Sunday (All Saints') is special for so many reasons, including the extra thought and care we put into our musical offerings. This Sunday, we feature two anthems by contemporary female composers, Elaine Hagenberg and Susan LaBarr. These women have composed some exquisitely lush, vibrantly and emotionally provoking music for us, and the choir is excited to share them with you. "Gather at the River" by Susan LaBarr reminds us of those Christians before us, our baptism, and our communion together with God. "All Things New" is directly quoting text from our liturgy this week. It reminds us that God is working in us in mysterious ways, and that we are always experiencing metamorphosis so we can better express God's light. We hope you enjoy these choral anthems by these women, and we give thanks for their elegant craftswomanship! We will read the names of our loved ones that are in the booklet beside the ofrenda on Sunday at the luncheon. Hope to see you there! Have you ever seen a traditional Ofrenda for Día de los Muertos? Wonder what they are for? Between Oct. 28 - Nov 3., many Hispanic cultures have a beautiful way of remembering and celebrating their ancestors and friends that are no longer with us, Día de los Muertos. In some cultures, the Ofrenda (offering), a sort of altar/shrine, is created and nurtured. People take time to gather around it to remember loved ones and celebrate. We are creating one at St. Paul's this year, and you can contribute! EXAMPLES OF WHAT TO BRING: (which you will get back after Nov. 3!) One of our choir member's Dad carved the famous Fr. Serra statue which now stands at the Mission! Oktoberfest Thank you! Last Saturday, October 12, we had a fun celebration of all things German, a true Oktoberfest. Thank you to the Men's Group for putting on the event with great food and drink, Fr. Greg for the Jolly Jumper for the kids, Ventura Coast Brewing Co. for the beer, and Herr Felix Eisenhauer (& sidekick, Kai) for leading the evening with fun German trivia, dance, and a "feuerzangenbowle" to end the evening with a spark!
